We’re a second-generation family-owned business that is proud to be headquartered in the Midwest of the USA serving global customers. We’ve grown into a 30,000 sqft building, 30 employees and a global customer base. We think what differentiates us from other providers is our novel ideas and efficient designs. We succeed where others have failed, and we create cost-efficient solutions for projects ranging from $50,000 up in to the millions.
The business was started by Ken Martin out of his house with a neighbor answering phones and an engineer working nights and weekends to help get it off the ground. Ken has spent nearly his entire career in industrial powertrain and automation.
Jack Martin, Ken’s son, majored in mechanical engineering at Ohio State University, then worked in sales and marketing at Stryker, the medical device company, for several years before coming into the business. He combines the Fortune 500 sales experience with the intimate family business environment to create a close knit, process rich and goal oriented company.
PD&B Inc. was founded in 1998 in Sylvania, Ohio. In the ensuing twenty five years, our success propelled us through three separate facilities, one plant expansion and most recently, the addition of a second plant location. Our current home is Toledo, Ohio.
PD&B Inc.’s strongest asset is the knowledge we have acquired from exposure to the many different industries we serve. We design and build equipment for the aluminum tubing, blow molding, automotive, solar cell, “green technology,” food, and other industries. With all these varied experiences, we are prepared to provide you with the best solutions to your manufacturing needs.
I’m a business owner who likes to manage as if I am on the “other side of the desk.” I try to put myself in my customer’s, and my employees’ positions. It is only then when I understand what they need and want that I feel I can make an informed decision. I have lived my life trying to make choices that are not short sighted, but are good for all parties concerned.
Here are a few more details.
I was born in Illinois and then raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Go Packers!
Once out of high school, I spent the next four years working in the Air Force with the Strategic Air Command as an avionics technician. The experience allowed me to see more of the United States and provided time for me to grow up.
Three years after a honorable discharge, I earned a degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in Business Administration Marketing. I was hired out of school by Morse Industrial Products, a division of Borg Warner Corporation. After several successful years with them in Ithica, Pittsburg and Detroit, I went to work for a Toledo based distributor selling industrial power transmission equipment.
During my fifteen year tenure at the Toledo distributor, I began to design basic machinery and automation. I was working at a local power power transmission distributor when some of my customers eliminated their in-house engineering departments and were searching for trusted providers to design and build their production equipment. Today, I am proud to say we are a very successful international manufacturing company that employs the finest team of engineers, machinists, fabricators and assembly technicians in the business.
